2019 is upon us, and my Facebook feed has been full of people with their phenomenal resolutions and how they are going to be better people in the coming year. I am not doing this . I stink at making resolutions, and even worse at keeping them for any amount of time. I always think about them as December draws to a close, make a list of the things I want to accomplish in the New Year, then January 1st hits and I no longer care. I asked my son what his New Year's resolutions were, and got a lot of non committal comments about baseball, playgrounds, and the aquarium. The kid definitely takes after me sometimes.
Instead of pushing for New Year's resolutions and making promises to myself that I know I'm not going to keep, I have decided instead to make a list of ideas that I would like to fulfill in the next year, but will not feel any obligation to stick to. I'm not going to hold myself to these, and if I fail at any of them I'm not going to stress about it. What I am going to do is share the list with you. Take it for what it is, but don't hold me to it if things fail.
1) - I am going to do a better job of keeping tracks of the books I read/listen to. I go through a lot of books every year, so many that I have on more than one occasion, started listening to a new book and halfway through realize I've already listened to it before. This is mostly going to include the books that I listen to as I drive through my day. There will also be the super rare book that I pick up a physical copy of and read in all of that down time that I have. I will also be including children's books that I feel are of significant value.
2) -I'm going to bring back product reviews to my blog. I had some very positive feedback when I did them in the past, but then I ran out of interesting things to review for a while. Feel free to recommend products or services to me so I can try them out
3) - I will optimize this blog across multiple platforms. Current plan is to set a dedicated social media type for everyday. I'm willing to take input on this or suggestions from those who have done it well in the past.
4) - And now 4 the obligatory, I'm going to lose some weight. My 2018 was not a phenomenal year for my health. I had to my first ER visits and then my second. I was diagnosed with pleurisy at the beginning of the year and a type of tachycardia later on in the year, then rounded it all out with being informed that I have some sort of auto immune disease, but I have yet to see a specialist to determine which one. The result of health setbacks, me being lazy, and my affinity for really really good food, has resulted in me gaining a good amount of weight in the last few months. I'm ready to see that gone
As I said these are not New Year's resolutions, and I'm not going to feel bad if I've given up on them before January ends. The great thing about life going on, is that there is no reason for me to limit starting new things to just January. I might come up with a fantastic idea halfway through March and decide that that is my project and that is what I will focus on. Mostly for 2019 I want to continue to be happy. I have an amazing life, a fantastic family, friends that are willing to tolerate my insanity, and a life that is just as good as I can imagine it ever being. When things are that good to start with, it's a hard to find ways to improve things, but I'm sure I'll come up with a few ideas. What is in your plans for 2019?
